The Girl Who Kept Her Place
When her father died, twelve-year-old Amara’s school fees died with him. In her community on the edge of Lagos, that usually means the end of the story: a bright girl, a locked classroom door, a future folded away.
Through our partner’s scholarship programme — funded in part by a TPF grant — Amara kept her place. Fees, uniform, books, the bus fare that seems small until you don’t have it: all covered, for the full six years of secondary school.
“I thought school was finished for me,” she says. “Now I want to be the one who pays for someone else one day.” That’s the thing about light — it spreads.
